Emirates will operate flights from Amsterdam using SAF

This month, Emirates has started to activate its fuel agreement with Neste at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Over the course of 2024, more than 2 million gallons of blended SAF will be added to Schiphol Airport's fueling infrastructure.

One of the biggest volumes of SAF that Emirates has ever bought is represented by its association with Neste, which was revealed towards the end of last year.

When the blended SAF is completely supplied into Amsterdam Schiphol's fueling system, it will have contained more than 700,000 gallons of neat SAF. In the next months, the airline will be supplying SAF into Singapore Changi Airport's fuelling infrastructure in collaboration with Neste.

Adel Al Redha, Deputy President and Chief Operations Officer at Emirates, said, “Collaborating with committed partners like Neste is one of the practical steps we are taking to reduce our emissions, and it’s an all-important milestone in our own sustainability journey as an airline. Strong partnerships like this, especially at major air transport hubs such as Amsterdam, lay the foundation for how we can work with partners and airports to increase access to and availability of SAF across our network.”

Alexander Kueper, Vice President of Renewable Aviation at Neste, said, “ SAF is an available solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from air travel and it is exciting that Emirates has started using our Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. ”

In its purest form, SAF used in this agreement may be safely added to existing airport fueling infrastructure and jet engines. It also cuts lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80%* when compared to conventional jet fuel.

The first Emirates flight powered by a combination of SAF and jet fuel was from Chicago in 2017. At the moment, the airline operates flights with SAF from Paris, Lyon, and Oslo. With the assistance of partners, Emirates also added SAF to several aircraft, including one to Sydney, in October of last year by integrating it into the fuelling infrastructure at Dubai Airport.
