Sabre Adds Sustainability Data to Flight Searches

Sabre Corporation, a travel technology company based in Texas, announces its initiative towards spreading awareness among travel companies about sustainability. By integrating carbon emissions data into its point-of-sale tools for corporations and travel agencies, the company has achieved a significant sustainability-centric milestone.

Sabre largest global distribution systems provider for air bookings in North America founded by American Airlines in 1960. However, they experienced success in 2000. And in 2023, as part of Sabre’s and Google’s long-term partnership, Sabre integrated Google’s Travel Impact Model (TIM) to display the carbon footprint of flights on its systems. This will enable travellers to make more informed travel-related decisions.

Sabre Red 360, a travel agency tool, has already integrated the emissions information and GetThere, Sabre’s corporate online booking tool, is expected to implement the model by the end of this year.

The announcement regarding this meaningful initiative toward reducing the company’s overall emissions was designed as part of the four-year-long strategic partnership between Sabre and Google. This partnership also includes migrating Sabre’s data centres to Google Cloud.

Kristin Hays, the Chief Communications and Corporate Responsibility Officer at Sabre, said “Integrating emissions data from Google’s Travel Impact Model is an important step in bringing sustainability information to the mainstream for corporate and leisure travellers.”

She also added, “As a technology company that sits at the core of the travel ecosystem, we believe we can play an important role in identifying emissions data to help travellers make more informed decisions when booking travel.”

Sebnem Erzan, the Head of Travel Sustainability & Transport Partnerships at Google, added, “People should be able to understand the impact of their travel choices, and we are delighted to extend the reach of the Travel Impact Model through Sabre,”

Erzan further expressed his views regarding this movement, “This is a partnership with a true values alignment; together we hope to advance the travel ecosystem towards a more sustainable future.”
