Cayman Islands Lifts All Travel Restrictions For COVID

The government of the Cayman Islands recently made an official announcement to lift all travel restrictions that were in place for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This comes as great news for travellers looking forward to visiting this British overseas territory.

According to a statement released by the Official Department of Tourism, effective from 24 August, Wednesday, the nation located in the western Caribbean Sea will be dropping all the COVID-related travelling restrictions.

This announcement entails that all international visitors, whether they are vaccinated or not, will be granted access to the Cayman Islands without the need to provide authorities with any additional health-related documentation or apply on the Travel Cayman portal for a travel authorization certificate before travelling.

The published announcement changes a couple of policies within the Caribbean nation, for the locals as well as the foreign visitors, like the mandated mask-wearing requirement has been officially lifted.

Before the new changes take place, only the fully vaccinated travellers were exempted from going through any further quarantine time or testing after landing on the lands of the Cayman Islands. At the time, even though unvaccinated foreign visitors are allowed inside the borders, however, they are still required to go through a seven-day quarantine period, given that the traveller is above the age of 12 years. If the international visitor is under the age of 12 they are also exempted from the mandatory quarantine requirement, whether they are vaccinated or not.

Also, before the new rules take effect, the travellers visiting the islands as part of a cruise itinerary will be required to complete their vaccine course at least 14 days before boarding their ship. For children under the age of 12, are allowed to disembark even if they are unvaccinated, only when they are accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult.

For international visitors to the Cayman Islands, Pre-arrival testing requirements had already been discontinued, leaving no other interisland travel regulations in place.
