Amadeus Reveals Positive Trend in Air travel and hospitality for Americas

2024 just started and Amadeus reveals a new report which highlights a positive trend for air travel and hospitality in the Americas.

The report in discussion is Travel Insights 2024: Focus on the Americas and it mentions that the air capacity over the first four months of the year in the region is up by 20 per cent when compared to the same period in 2023, thus deduces the industry is prepared for a strong start to the year.

The report, which was released in association with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), provides a thorough summary of forward-looking travel industry insights by utilising Amadeus' global travel data.

To help destinations and travel agencies better understand travel performance and insights into travellers wishing to visit the Americas, this report takes a closer look at the continent.

By using these data, destinations will be able to predict changes in traveller patterns and trends and develop tactics that pique travellers' interest and encourage tourism and economic growth.

According to the research, as of January 8th, North America accounted for the largest amount of activity in the Americas subregion, with New York, Cancun, and Los Angeles ranking as the most popular destinations. This information is based on Amadeus's search and booking data.

Amadeus' Demand360+ data also reveals that despite shorter lead times where 51% of hotel reservations are made within a week of travel, hotel demand is still strong throughout North America with forward-looking occupancy in each of the first four months of the year is comparable to occupancy for the same period in 2023.

The research examines traveller behaviour by origin market apart from detailing performance data for each of the Americas' four subregions: North America, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

The context of how many passengers could travel to each destination and the ideal window of time to pique interest while they are making travel plans and reservations are also provided by using Amadeus data on available air capacity to each region.

By combining these facts, travel destinations may better grasp the flow of tourism throughout the world, the performance of their markets and regions, and how to seize future prospects.

The top three markets searching for travel to the US are domestic travel, followed by Canada and the UK.

It's also noteworthy that, with a 159% rise in search volumes year over year, Argentina is becoming a more significant destination for US travellers.

With cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto topping the searches, the USA is by far the most popular nation of origin for travellers looking to go to South and Central America as well as the Caribbean.

Europe is another important origin location where the top three countries looking for South and Central America, respectively, are Spain and Germany.

The Americas' hotel occupancy performance is roughly in line with that of 2023, with minor variations across subregions.

Francisco Pérez-Lozao Rüter, the Hospitality President at Amadeus, said: “Access to insights across the global travel ecosystem provides a new perspective into traveller behaviours.

“We are excited to partner with the UNWTO – enabling destinations and travel providers alike to plan for the future.

“The past few years have accelerated the adoption of technology to make the experience of travel better, smoother, and faster, creating greater accessibility and opportunity to connect the world.”
