Fiji Lifts All Remaining Covid-19 Restrictions

Tourists visiting Fiji will no longer be required to show documentation of their Covid-19 vaccination and travel insurance, according to the Fijian government.

In 2022, Fiji received 636,312 tourists, a significant increase over its anticipated goals.

This most recent action, which is applicable to both arrivals by air and sea, was taken after the Covid-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce (CRMT) carefully assessed the situation on a national and international level.

The last set of admission limitations were dropped earlier this month as the nation proceeded towards treating Covid-19 as an endemic.

Tourism Fiji chief executive, Brent Hill, said: “The industry welcomes the decision to remove all protocols, restrictions, vaccination requirements and Covid-19 tests – and invites the world to come and experience Fiji: where happiness comes naturally.”

He continued: “We still strongly encourage travellers to have travel insurance and take the necessary precautions we all know well to stay healthy and maximise their fun in Fiji.

Previously, all travellers 16 years of age and older had to show documentation of a complete vaccination record and travel insurance that covered the Covid-19 virus.

Hospitalizations continue to be low, according to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), in part because of its community-wide immunisation programme and in-country surveillance capabilities.

Importantly, the emphasis is still on applying Covid-19 protective procedures around individuals who are most susceptible to its harmful effects.

Also, according to the MHMS, 95% of the estimated adult population has received a vaccination, and eligible individuals on all the islands are still receiving booster injections.

Fiji will no longer have any Covid-19-related border health precautions, in line with the experience in other nations with high vaccination rates.

Border authorities will continue to review border health measures and maintain community surveillance for early warning of future threats while fostering socio-economic recovery.
