Ryanair Adds New Winter Flights from Newcastle

Ryanair, an Irish ultra-low-cost carrier, is almost doubling its winter network by adding six new destinations to its portfolio. These flights will be departing from Newcastle airport, England, UK, from October and onwards.

The announcement for these additional flights was made on Wednesday (7th September 2022) by the Airline. The carrier will deploy two aircraft at Newcastle and hopes to conduct over 80 flights each week during winter.

Now including the flights to Barcelona in Spain, Cork in Ireland, Milan Bergamo in Italy, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria in Spain, and Riga in Latvia, the total number of destinations served by non-frills airlines from the north-east airport is from 9 to 15.

One-way bookings from October until January done before Friday (September 9) can catch the flight from the northern airport for £21.99.

Jason McGuinness, the Commercial Director of Ryanair, said that the expansion was "a big vote of confidence in the North East". "It is now nine routes more than prior to Covid," he said. "We are going to double our passenger numbers in Newcastle pre- and post-Covid”.

He also added, “This winter Ryanair is offering its UK customers lower fares and more certainty with their travel plans, as it operates a full schedule of over 3,000 daily flights with many new routes and unbeatable value for our customers and their families.

“We are delighted to continue our long-term development plan with Newcastle airport in winter to give our customers the most options for travel year-round at the lowest possible fares, developing traffic, jobs and economic support to the area.”

The Newcastle Airport team was praised by McGuinness for doing an "exceptional job" post-lockdown.

When questioned about negotiations over pay between Ryanair and unionised cabin crew members in the UK, Mr McGuiness stated, "Across Europe, we have agreements in place with at least 90% of our people for pay increments to 2026.” And added, "We have maintained all of our jobs during Covid while others were cutting jobs, we have maintained all of our staff during Covid."
