Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines' Strategic Partnership Revealed
After Malaysia Airlines’ announced the launch of a non-stop service from Kuala Lumpur to Doha starting from 25th May, Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines reveals the outlines for the next phase of their strategic partnership.
Expanding on their code-share cooperation, they will now allow their passengers to connect with their next flight via their leading hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Doha with ease.
The expansion of the code-share cooperation will add 34 new destinations to the previous 62. This can be considered another milestone for the OneWorld partnership between the national carriers of the two countries.
This agreement will give travellers from everywhere the chance to enjoy seamless travel thanks to the broader network on both airlines. With perks not limited to check in, boarding and baggage-related services, benefits complementary to the frequent flyer and access to a world-class lounge during the entire journey.
Hence, from 25 May 2022, passengers of Malaysia Airlines flying from Kuala Lumpur to Doha will get access to Qatar Airways’ 62 code-share destinations. Similarly, passengers of Qatar Airways flying from Doha to Kuala Lumpur will get access to Malaysia Airlines’ 34 destinations.
Through this enhancement in their pre-existing agreement, the parties involved might be able to make Kuala Lumpur the leading aviation hub in the Southeast Asia Region. This hub will connect Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and other Southeast Asian countries with the Middle East, Europe, the USA, and Africa.
Captain Izham Ismail, the CEO of Malaysia Airlines, said in his statement, “We are excited to deepen our cooperation with our long-standing OneWorld partner Qatar Airways to bring the world closer to our customers with more choices and flexibility, exceptional services and innovative products, while upholding the highest operational safety, just as passengers begin to travel again following the reopening of borders.
As we move into the endemic phase, this strategic cooperation shows both carriers’ commitment to offering an unrivalled range of value-added services to passengers and reflects the agility and resilience in facing the pandemic challenges. This partnership is opportune in our efforts to boost air traffic and expedite recovery to pre-pandemic levels, while also enhancing our global brand visibility.”
Mr Akbar Al Baker, the CEO of Qatar Airways, has stated: “We share a close and deep bond with Malaysia Airlines and welcome their new non-stop service between Kuala Lumpur and our home in Doha, Hamad International Airport.
